Michael Cheika has a big task this week. All season, the Waratah's front office have used the motto 'believe' and after a lot of convincing, many fans finally are. But for this to continue, Cheika knows they need to win this game, too many years the Tahs promise much and then fade out too quickly.
Cheika paid his opponents the highest compliment yesterday saying that they are staring to play like their coach Stephen Larkham. The display that the Brumbies put on against the Chiefs was in stark constrast to the 'boring' label they are often given. They played smart rugby and took the right opportunities in attack, instead of trying to take every opportunity.
Closer to home, Cheika seems to have softened up saying “I don’t think I’ve ever been so close to a team as far as feeling them as part of my family.” It has been obvious that he has the players respect, but the fact that they have his respect is a good sign for the team leading up to this massive game.
Cheika summed up how all of the Waratah's players and fans are feeling this week,
“We understand that we’ve been on the receiving end over many years, and warranted, because we haven’t delivered....... Here’s a chance for us"
Here's hoping he can deliver.
