Wallabies and NSW Waratahs star Kurtley Beale has undergone successful knee surgery on Monday afternoon.

Beale suffered the injury during the Waratahs' match against the Bulls at Allianz Stadium on Saturday, having during the week signed a rich contract to play for English club Wasps.

The Waratahs issued a statement saying the surgery went well, with a good fixation of the patella tendon back onto the patella bone, and he is still expected to be out of action for four to six months.
